GUWAHATI: In an operation against busting illegal liquor, the Fancy Bazaar Police in Guwahati destroyed a total of 20 litres of country liquor found in the area.

The team of Fancy Bazaar Police headed by OC (Officer-In-Charge) Priyabrat Gogoi launched the operation aiming at busting the country liquor dens in Guwahati's fancy market area.

Throughout the operation, the officials evicted numerous stores of country liquor involved in the illegal selling of liquor.

The liquor busting operation took place on Tuesday 12 April near the railway track connecting Athgaon and Fancy Bazar in the Guwahati metropolis.

Earlier, the railway police officials have conducted such operations in the same area many times but the illicit liquor dens repeatedly form within a few days after the eviction drive.

It may be mentioned that there are several other criminals and illegal activities going on in the area and police are unable to control the situation despite continuous efforts.

According to the locals of the area, police have been conducting several operations in the places near the railway track since long but there have been no useful results from any of the operations.

The locals said that evictions are carried out in the locality on a regular basis but such illegal sale of country liquor took place very often after a week or 2 to 3 days.

They further blamed the police for the occurrence of such crimes repeatedly as according to them the police take no strict action except evicting and destroying the liquor found.

Notably, the illegal sale of liquor in Guwahati city has been increasing over the last few months and some of the designated areas witnessed the massive evidence of such activities.

Illegal alcohol is mainly found in areas like roadside dhabas, railway tracks and many places which are unable to access by the officials.
